My core biology class is actually pretty interesting. Because each "quarter" is condensed into three weeks, we have class Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from for three and a half hours each day, which is sort of a bitch, but the professors have two very different styles and they are both pretty cool, so they keep things lively. As for the material, it is kind of cool. The class is called The Infectious Lifestyle and combines a lot of cellular/molecular biology with some crazy immune response stuff to look at recent issues like HIV and TB. But since the course is only three weeks long instead of ten, there is no structure at all, so assignments are kind of made up as we go, and there are no exams. SWEET. We do have to read a lot, including the book Plagues and Peoples and each week we have to read The New York Times science section and the Center for Disease Control's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report which has fascinating pictures like this one illustrating the concentration of Lyme disease so far this year:
