Fun times roaming the streets of Hyde Park, Chicago, as well as the summer and holiday grind of Vero Beach, Florida.

Should

If you ask me, the world should be like that of the harmoniums on Mercury. They can mysteriously communicate, but only two messages:

The first is: "Here I am, here I am, here I am."
The second is: "So glad you are, so glad you are, so glad you are."

Really, isn't that what life should be?

Nattily

Page 85 of Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan:

"It was easy to believe that they had begun the voyage nattily, flushed with youth and technical training, and that the bottles before them were the instruments they had been watching for years and years and years."

This is the first instance I have ever run into the word "nattily."

The Vizzle Bizzle, Again

I am back in Vero. Again. Leave of absence? Who would have thought I'd actually want to go back to Florida? But here I am, of my own volition. After the events of last week, I just want to be with my family for some reason. How weird is that?

My little brother cut his hair. It isn't like a mop anymore. It's pretty sweet, but he's got a bit of a mullet thing going on that needs to be taken care of.

Sometimes I just want to be with my mommy and/or my daddy. You know? Is that really so bad?

I don't know how long I'll be here, but if you're in town give me a call for sure.

Third Quarter's a Charm

So I'm out of school for my third quarter so far. Woo! Why? Because I'm me, and apparently taking leaves of absence is just what I do. Rock so hard.

ALSO, get this...my two quarter of Japanese are enough to fill the requirement of the linguistics major! That means I neither have to finish out the year with a third quarter or take another three quarters of another language next year.

You know why I worked my ass off in high school? A) I got into the University of Chicago and 2) I will have taken an entire year off and my AP credits mean I will still graduate with class of 2010. I only have nine classes left to take, so bitches, I don't even have to take a single four class-load quarter.

Mandala Journal

So maybe this isn't blogtastic, but I feel like putting it up anyway.

I've been getting a little more into painting, but I recognize I'm not very good at it. To ignore that fact, I've been doing a Mandala journal. Mandalas are circles (typically) that are supposed to be relatively emotional (usually calming) to fill in. I like them a lot. I also like painting a lot. So I've been taking about five minutes out of each day to make one.

Here they are so far. I think they're kind of pretty.

Inappropriate

Three inches of snow in April? Inappropriate, weather. Inappropriate.

So for you nerds out there: I have to write a fifteen page term paper about a myth. Any myth. My favorite myth is the one about Persephone and the pomegranate, but I think that's too short to get fifteen pages out of. Does anyone have a favorite myth that they could recommend?
