Circle Game
Official Rules
1. There are no rounds ready to go right now. Sorry. :( If you want me to let you know when one starts, email me.
2. Each player will be assigned a number and a keyword. You email your submission (sentence or picture) to the next person in line though my anonymous webmail program. That means you will have an email address like player1@nattily.org or player429292@nattily.org (we will have that many players) that you cannot access, but the mail will be forwarded to your actual email address. The keyword is completely unrelated to you, your sentence, or anything else. It is simply an identifier of your particular string. Each player should put their keyword into the subject line of their first sentence, and each following player should keep that subject.
For instance, if Sreya is player1 with keyword bubbles, I am player2 with keyword awesome, and Greg is player3 with keyword seven, Sreya would write the email:
To: player2@circle.nattily.org
From: player1@circle.nattily.org
Subject: bubbles
Body: Indians are awesome, but only some of them. |
Then I would write the email:
To: player3@circle.nattily.org
From: player2@circle.nattily.org
Subject: bubbles
Body: PNG attached |
And it would continue as such.
3. Sentences should be included in the body of the email (as above). Pictures should be 500X500 or smaller PNG or GIF files. DO NOT EVER USE BMP!!! They do not have to be good, they're better when they're crappy. Send pictures as attachments. Pictures may be designed in a program like paint or drawn on paper and scanned, but they must be under 500X500 pixels. If you scan your picture please make sure you shrink it to fit those dimensions.
4. You have ONE DAY to write your sentence or draw your picture and send it. The email must be sent by midnight. That means when I assign you numbers and keywords on October 1st, you must send your original emails with sentences that day, as in before it becomes October 2nd. It takes about two seconds to write a sentence, and maybe five minutes to draw some stick figures in paint, so yes, once a day, including Sundays. I don't believe in God. If you do not have access to a computer every day, please do not sign up for this. Even when you're playing a ten minute game of this on paper in your high school econ classes back-ups are annoying as hell.
5. Please do not forward or reply or any of that business. Write a fresh email each time so that the past pictures/sentences don't get sent to people who should not see them.
6. Since there is no limit to the number of players, the lenghth of time for each game is unknown before the game begins. If ten people sign up, it will go for ten days. Three people, three days. A million people, a million days. Whatever.
7. When the game is over I will compile the strings and post them on nattily/circle, with a name to accompany each sentence/picture (your name, not your player number or keyword).
8. This is probably the sweetest thing ever, so you better do it.
9. This is not just for my high school friends. Anyone interested please join. Hopefully it will be a lot of fun. If not, at least it's a special email each day.
10. Balls.
Don't have a paint program?
No problem. If you've got a scanner you can draw your pictures by hand and scan them as long as you have a way to shrink them to 500x500 pixels or less. That can be tedious though, so you may want to check out some paint programs available free online. Check out freeware Gimp to start. HEY! I use Gimp. I have Photoshop, but Gimp is actually way way easier to use. It is both Mac and PC compatible, so get on it!
